The summer in India is synonymous with the mango season for the foodies. Mango, a tropical juicy fruit, is mainly cultivated in India for its edible goodness. There are many varieties seen in our country, some of which have historical lineage. Its regarded in this part of the world as the "king of fruits". Some mangoes taste best when they are ripe, whereas several other varieties are eaten raw.
Normally mangoes show up in the markets during March and stay there till July-August. The varieties keep coming in the market in phases during the season. There are certain types of mangoes which generally enter the market first and various other types from different regions follow them in phased way. One can see a mango from as small as a ping pong ball to as large as one weighing two/three kilograms.
